We had a great day in Kindergarten. They were actually pretty calm today! Must be the calm before the storm, eh?? We began our day with Art Adventures with Will’s mom. It was fun learning about using different textures in art. The kids did a great job too!! We also had morning meeting and wrote in our journals about things that we will do in first grade. Some wrote, ‘learn’, which makes me wonder what they think we’ve been doing in Kindergarten all year longJ, some said ‘play’ and they will do that for sure, and some melted my heart and wrote ‘miss Mrs. Ehrich’. Very cute!! We had calendar and went out to recess.

In the afternoon we had lunch and quiet time. For math today we reviewed symmetry and talked about symmetry in butterflies. They kids each made their own butterfly using symmetry. They did a nice job! We also did an assessment on writing numbers to 100. Many made it all the way there, they are definitely showing me that they are ready for first grade. During gym today they ran the ½ mile and Mrs. Hoffman said they did a really nice job. The motto for many was ‘Never Give Up’!! Way to go runners! We came back for snack and free choice time. It was a good day and I’m looking forward to another great day tomorrow.

*Remember, tomorrow is the walk-a-thon so please wear appropriate clothing and shoes*

We had a great day in Kindergarten! In the morning we began our day with reviewing the different parts of the bug. We read a story called ‘A Crunchy Munchy Caterpillar’ and then we were able to make our very own bugs! We made our own bugs out of different candy and food. The kids liked creating their own bug and they loved having to check someone else’s progress. We made sure to include: head, thorax, abdomen, 6 legs, and antennae. We also played some hang spider (some played ‘hang butterfly’) to practice our sight words. We went out for recess and had lunch.

In the afternoon we had music and quiet time. For math today we compared double digit numbers and played a game comparing two digit numbers with a partner. After that we went outside to our sidewalk and practiced writing numbers. A few kids even got past 100!! We came back inside for snack (yummy cupcakes for Will’s birthdayJ). At the end of the day we had a guest reader (Thanks to Marcus’ mom and sister). We then had calendar and got ready for the end of the day. It was a good day and it looks like a beautiful evening! EnjoyJ

The days are just ticking away!! It seems unbelievable that we have only 16 more day of school, but who’s counting?! In the morning we began our day with cybrary. Today was out last day to check out books and they should be returned on Friday, May 18th. We read a fun story about different bugs and made a list of adjectives that could describe bugs. The kids finished the poem, ‘I Like Bugs’ and illustrated the bugs that they described. It was pretty cute!! We also had calendar and recess.

After lunch, we had quiet time. In math today we reviewed different pattern block shapes. The kids then we asked to create their own bug using different pattern blocks. They turned out pretty creative and FULL of shapes!! We had Boost-Up…outside today! It’s always such a treat to do something a little different and the kids loved soaking up the warm weather. We came back in for snack and free choice time. Some kids were using the iPads today during choice time to make some commercials, they were adorableJ. Have a great evening!

*Remember: Thursday is the ½ mile run and Friday we need to return our books AND we have the walk-a-thon

May 14th

We had a busy day in Kindergarten! In the morning we practiced some songs for our upcoming graduation (they are sooooo cute). We also learned about the life cycle of a butterfly today. We learned that they start at the egg stage, then to the larva or caterpillar stage, then to the pupa stage, and finally onto the butterfly stage. We watched a time lapse video of the different stages and completed a book that focused on each of the stages. The kids really liked it and enjoyed learning about the different stages. We had calendar and went outside for recess.

In the afternoon we had quiet time and in math we practiced doing some subtraction problems. We also worked on adding numbers sets to 10. Your child will come home with a counting string and 10 beads. We used this to come up with different ways to get to 10. Have your child show you the different ways they found. We also had gym, snack, and free choice time. It was a good day, a little chatty, but good learning all aroundJ Enjoy the beautiful evening.

**Specialist notes this week: on Thursday, May 17th the kids will be running the ½ mile with Mrs. Hoffman. Please send them with good shoes for running and appropriate clothing for the day. Also, the Media Center will be collecting all books on Friday, May 18th. Tomorrow is the last day to check out books for this school year and they need to be returned on Friday. Thanks so much for your help!

What a great day in Kindergarten!! In the morning we finished up our special project that we’ve been working on. I hope these special projects are enjoyed on SundayJ.  We also read the story ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle. We briefly talked about his art and read the story a few times. One time we used puppets to retell the story and the kids LOVED it!! Very fun! We had calendar and went out for recess. After lunch today we had music and quiet time. We did some other fun activities with ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ again and watched a movie about butterflies. We then had snack and free choice time. It was a great day!

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms out there!! Thanks so much for sharing your children with meJ.

Wow. So many of you have been so generous and thoughtful this week. I am so thankful. The candy, mints, flowers, and notes have definitely brightened my day (but I do still love the hugs, too). Thanks so much for thinking of me during this week.

It was a good day in Kindergarten! We’ve done a lot of different things that we don’t normally doJ In the morning we started out our day with Art Adventures with Will’s mom. We talked about a cool vintage city scape photograph by Berenice Abbott. The kids were then able to make their own chalk drawing of a city at night. They loved the drawings and so did I!! We also worked on the letter Yy. We had some extra outside time with Mrs. Tobin’s class while I ran the mile run with a 3rd grade class (there’s a little wager going on amongst the teachers who can run the fastestJ). Then we went to recess and had lunch.

In the afternoon we had quiet time and worked on our special project. We then had some time to play a dice adding game with a butterfly.  We had gym, snack, and free choice time. At the very end of the day, Carley led us with calendar. It was a great day and I hope that you are able to find something to do outside tonight. It is beautiful!!!

We had a good day in Kindergarten!

In the morning we had morning meeting. Today we had our very last reading day as we did a ‘Celebration Day’ in reading. Each class did some sort of food word work in reading and had the last opportunity to say their goodbyes to their reading teacher.  Today we also worked on writing thank you notes to other teachers in the building for Teacher Appreciation week. We also had calendar and played a quick game of Sparkle (wow, they just LOVE that gameJ).

In the afternoon we had music and on the way back we received our LAST star so that changed our afternoon a little bit. Instead of quiet time we used the last star and had an extra free choice time DURING quiet time. Yes, this was a BIG deal!! We then practiced identifying where the hands on a clock are and worked on a time worksheet. These Kindergarteners really seem to understand time to the hour.  We worked on our project this week a little and then had snack and our second free choice time. It was a good day! Enjoy the great weather!

May 8th

It was a good day in Kindergarten! In the morning we began our day with going to cybrary. We then had morning meeting and began our unit on bugs and insects. We read a funny story about some sneaky spiders in the book ‘The Bugliest Bugs’. We then brainstormed about what we know about insects. We learned a lot from each other! We sang a song about insects (Have them sing it to you…’head, thorax, abdomen’…). We then discussed the parts of an insect before going to calendar. We had indoor recess today due to a passing shower/downpour. We had lunch and quiet time.

In the afternoon we did a math assessment on adding and read a book about moms. We also had stations which included:

*Guided Reading with Mrs. Ehrich

*Putting insects in alphabetical order

*Sight word concentration with bugs

*Ongoing project work

*Snake eyes on the smartboard

We finished the day with snack and free choice time. Thanks for the donations to the food shelf!! Way to goJ

Also, thank you for the beautiful flowers. They look wonderful on my desk and I enjoy their smell too. Again, I’m feeling very thankful to work with such wonderful families!
